Antitrust is the Surest Way to Counter Big Tech

I will use Google search when looking for plumbers and HVAC contractors near me

Otherwise Brave and DuckDuckGo

Even DuckDuckGo has been dicey since the war in Ukraine

I had to stop listening when he started going off on McKenzie as being an enemy of the middle class because they cut costs.

It’s not the job of companies to serve the interests of the government by coddling the middle class.

It’s the job of the government to establish the incentives for companies properly so as to provide a resilient and sustainable society which is founded on the middle class. Certainly companies that engage in political action that subvert those incentives should be considered traitors to of the extent they have any legal existence as persons.

But all this nonsense about companies supposedly serving the middle class is merely a way of keeping the tax base on activity instead of net assets and then opening a gate wide open in the public mind for communists.

I’ve often commented on the stark contrast that would obtain between Elon Musk as entrepreneur and Jeff Bezos as monopolist if the 16th Amendment were replaced by a wealth tax.

Things are getting quite out of hand with Amazon as evidenced by reactions to its ridiculous search engine which, for all intents and purposes, sacrifices sales on the altar of advertising revenue, as evidenced by these GOOGLE RESULTS which are dedicated to my good friend and colleague Dr. Lorentz:

With the benefit of a three-week bench trial and extensive post-trial filings, the Court finds that Plaintiffs have failed to prove that there is a relevant market for open-web display advertiser ad networks, but have proven that Google has violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act by willfully acquiring and maintaining monopoly power in the open-web display publisher ad server market and the open-web display ad exchange market, and has unlawfully tied its publisher ad server (DFP) and ad exchange (AdX) in violation of Sections 1 and 2 of the Sherman Act…

  1. This is a tale of two monopolists joining forces to ensure their continued dominance in a world rapidly driven by the most powerful technology humanity has ever created: artificial intelligence (“AI”). Working in tandem, Defendants Apple and OpenAI have locked up markets to maintain their monopolies and prevent innovators like X and xAI from competing.1 Plaintiffs bring this suit to stop Defendants from perpetrating their anticompetitive scheme and to recover billions in damages.

Complaint:

  1. Fox employs at least three anticompetitive means to exclude competing providers of right-leaning video content from the market. First, Fox imposes explicit or tacit “no-carry” provisions on distributors, conditioning access to its commercially critical content on distributors’ concession not to carry other right-leaning news channels like Newsmax and others. Second, it imposes financial penalties on distributors if they carry Newsmax or others by requiring the distributors to carry and pay high fees for Fox’s little-watched channels like Fox Business. Third, Fox inserts a suite of other contractual barriers into its carriage agreements intended to prevent Newsmax and others from competing. These tactics constitute unlawful restraints of trade and flow directly from Fox’s unlawful monopolization of the Right-leaning Pay TV News Market.

I’m far from conversant with the Byzantine workings of antitrust law, but in the big picture these practices seem anemic when compared those of Google, which seems to have mostly gotten away with acting as monopoly - through and through. The “justice” system now routinely exercises powers it does not possess (especially regarding Trump executive orders - compare to judicial flaccidity when it came to Obama and Biden) and fails to exercise legitimate powers which are essential (like reining in monopolies) if this Constitutional republic is to remain in existence (even if it is in name only).

Good points.

Just remember, in 1776 we exercised powder and shot against a foreigner. In 1860 we exercised powder and shot against parts of ourselves. Today we exercise electronic warfare against parts of ourselves. In each case, the righteous won. I believe they will today also.

Part of the reason I believe that is that Trump is wielding the same powers the Dems did, only against them. He has not really created any “new laws”, just exercised the power of his position. He has kept the boundaries fairly carefully. And he is excoriating his enemies.
