It sounds like one of those 1890s newspaper features about “Life in the 20th Century”, where home kitchens would be replaced by personal telegraphs with which you ordered food from a central kitchen, delivered piping hot in minutes directly to your house by [pneumatic tube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTHZLKFblKo).

Well, at C1 Espresso in Christchurch, New Zealand, your burgers and fries arrive directly at your table, shot at 140 km/hour from the kitchen through transparent pneumatic tubes that let diners see food on the fly.

Here is a _Vox_ article about “[The golden era of the pneumatic tube](https://www.vox.com/2015/6/24/8834989/when-the-pneumatic-tube-carried-fast-food-people-and-cats)”.
