Continuity seems like the easiest part to get right. Internal consistency and coherence merely require the careful application of logical rules. Machines are better at this than humans.
A more likely failure mode is cringe: that AI will produce some absurd dialogue that would never come from the mouth of a human or unnatural action by a character. AI models still have not fully grasped all the nuances of human behavior that actual humans know intuitively, even if they can’t verbalize them.
What machines? Hardcoded machines, yes. Generative AI? Will a boat look the same in one scene v. another? You would have to train the AI to use a solid modeling system like the movie and video game industry has used for a few years and stick with it.
I hope Elon is going to have a human review the dialogue (both written and as voiced) and instruct the AI on any revisions. I believe you and I have discussed a text-to-speech YouTube video that referred to a ship’s “bow” with pronunciation corresponding to a bow-tie.
That can be part of the instructions to the AI. Alternatively, the final product can be checked for continuity in various aspects by machine explicitly. Insuring continuity is a mechanistic process: go through the images and make sure the ship is consistent. Do the same with character’s clothing, etc. Unlike filmed, live-action cinema, it’s easy to fix such errors in computer generated images.
It’s the dialog and the behavioral details where the AI can run aground, to further the ship imagery. Interesting examples:
