There seems to be a festering consensus that this bridge was not very well designed.

Engineers blame $3m structural ‘flaw’ for Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key bridge collapsing - and tens of thousands of bridges across US could also have fault

The core problem seems to be that the designers of this and many other bridges never considered how much larger container ships would eventually get.

If they weren’t maintaining their propulsion systems properly, it is not a stretch to think they weren’t maintaining their sensor UPS systems either. :man_shrugging:

It is an ill wind that blows nobody any good. It is simply unfortunate that the beneficiaries of ill winds are so-often lawyers – earning big bucks filing suits and counter-suits, but doing nothing whatsoever to rebuild the bridge and re-open the port.
