This topic discusses the forthcoming SpaceX ninth flight test of the integrated [Starship](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpaceX_Starship) (#35) and [Super Heavy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SpaceX_Super_Heavy) booster (#14), currently scheduled for launch no earlier than 2025-05-27 23:30 UTC with a 90 minute launch window. The planned flight, if successful, will launch the craft on a near-orbital trajectory, with the first stage booster performing a boost back burn and **hard** water landing in the Gulf of America, and the upper stage Starship accelerating to a velocity slightly less than orbital speed, causing it to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere over the Indian Ocean.

In addition to [attempting to address Starship RUD](https://www.spacex.com/updates/#flight-7-report) and [RUD Part Deux](https://www.spacex.com/updates/#flight-8-report), key differences from the last flight surround the booster. This is a re-flight of booster 14 and 29 of 33 engines. As such, SpaceX does not want to risk damaging Starbase with a problem on return. But this also lets them attempt a fuel efficient high angle of attack descent. And then they will simulate a core engine failure on landing and attempt to relight a middle ring engine to compensate. This will be done at a sufficiently high altitude to give time to develop good data, thus leading to the hard landing.

Thanks to SpaceX upgrading their live streams to 4K, I’m going to watch theirs this time. (I usually watch the stream from Everyday Astronaut.)

Booster failure on reentry. looks like aero-loading toot too much of a toll. Engines relit but then failure.

Starship Starlink door failure so could not deploy Starlink simulants.

Sounds like they still have fuel line leaks in the second stage, causing it to start tumbling right after SECO (second engine cut off) and subsequent loss of control for re-entry.

I suspect that the loss of control was also the reason they didn’t try deploying the satellite simulators, because they wouldn’t have been able to guarantee immediate reentry.

Speculation is that they still have vibration/resonant modes in the fuel piping. At least they survived to SECO this time.

They said the door would not open.

On much of the flight, something appeared to be spraying from the Starship fuselage:
