Among the most serious corruptions of the Constitutional ideal is the effect of “identity politics”. It’s the main reason (along with cynical, disgusting gerrymandering) that votes don’t count. By long and hard “media” (the astoundingly still unrecognized megaphone of the hardest, hard left ideologues, pretending to publish “news” and “information”) distortions, “victim” groups have coalesced into secure leftist political blocs. The differences (wrongly) perceived by individuals in these groups are relentlessly reinforced, year after year, after year, by the same media cheerleaders which poisoned their minds with their supposed victimhood in the first place. I can think of nothing more corrosive of the Constitutional ideal than this longstanding manipulation (torture, really) of what began as a workable system. Throw in the amplification of lunatic groups by (anti-)social media and either the melting pot or the “salad bowl” model of society ends up in the blender - in chaos; and that seems clearly where we are headed. Unless the Islamists in league with the left eventually win out. If history is any teacher, after the lefty usefulness has run its course, the Islamists will deal promptly and definitively with their former brothers of convenience in arms. Then, order will be restored in the shadow of many, shiny new minarets, complete with nationwide calls to prayer, and all the other performative elements of the state religion of Islam.
All this devolves from the most ancient human character defect: the lust for power, to become Godlike. That’s what the First Commandment is about, as well as the Constitution; both have failed.
