1927—Breaking the 200 Miles per Hour Land Speed Barrier

Henry Segrave became the the first person to travel more than 200 miles per hour (320 km/hour) on land in 1927. In 1930, he set a new water speed record of 98.760 miles per hour (158.939 km/hour) and simultaneously held the land and water speed records. He was killed in June 1930 attempting to raise his water speed record.
