Apple’s crush ad was reversed by someone and it looks amazing
I’m still disbelieving that Apple ran the crush ad in the first place. This stuff is usually focus grouped within an inch of its life, how could something that big slip through?
Apple pulled the ad before the campaign actually ran. So you could say the focus grouping was live on Twitter?

As a thought experiment, if you assume Twitter was around in 1983 when the 1984 ad was being put together, would it have survived the collective zeitgeist of the period?
One difference would be that the 1984 ad was produced by Chiat/Day while the crush ad - according to AdAge - was produced in house by Apple. So maybe John Chiat knew a thing or two about advertising after all?
An interesting 15 minute film about MT Rainey who was recruited from the UK to “save” the ad from the pushback of the Apple board in 1983
Focus groups are hit or miss or uneventful.
I have read that Steve Jobs ignored focus groups which is unsurprising.
Twitter problem is that the users are not random or representative sample of America and that Twitter zeitgeist can vary greatly from general cultural zeitgeist.
I bet most people including Apple customers have no idea about this story and don’t care
