This is a true story from Brave Leo:
On October 14, 2026, the 100th anniversary of Winnie-the-Pooh’s publication, a black bear entered the Mammoth Lakes Library (a branch of the Mono County Free Libraries) approximately four hours before opening. The bear raided staff snacks, consuming peanut butter, peach cups, cookies, and a jar of honey, before touring the new releases and reference desk areas.
Surveillance footage released by the Mono County Office of Education showed the animal wandering the empty building for about 90 minutes without causing any damage. Library Director Josef Bopp humorously noted the “Li-BEAR-ian” likely sought a copy of the centennial classic, while reminding the public that local bears are wild and should not be fed or approached.
