The latest is failures of a “thrust link”. Thankfully, it appears to be a new part unique to the 777-9 and not implicating the existing fleet:
Arguably, this is good news – maybe evidence that Boeing is finally beginning to struggle out of its DIE-induced disasters.
The team developing a new prototype airplane actually checked for cracks. Great! That is what they should be doing, and the discovery of the cracks allows modifications to the design & manufacturing to avoid the problem in later production models.
Note that structural cracks on the British “Comet” airplane – the world’s first commercial jet – resulted in deaths of passengers and the effective end of the British commercial aviation industry. It is good that today’s manufacturers have learned the lesson of carefully examining structural integrity.
IIRC, they were building the static test article when I had a factory tour just over 8 years ago.
