Most observers would agree that the annual Eurovision Song Contest is an accurate barometer of Europe’s decline into decadent insignificance. And since politics dominates Europe, Russia was banned from participating.
This led Russian authorities to restart the Intervision Contest, which had years ago been run in the Soviet Union, restricted to Soviet Republics. The new Intervision is open to the world, with a supposed emphasis on each country demonstrating its individuality. The US had an entry along with 21 other countries, although most of the huffy Euros declined to participate. Contest was held in Moscow this weekend, and the winner was … Vietnam!
Who among us knew that Vietnam had a highly successful performer named Duc Phuc? Judging by his winning song, he has mastered the art of spectacle … but maybe not so much the art of song. For the record, Kyrgyzstan came second and Qatar third.
