Chinks in our Armor

So this week we hear about a “Chinese bio-lab” in Lвs Vegas which was developing technology to infect mice with Covid, or so it’s summarized on the (very brief) news reports.

Ho hum:yawning_face:.

Has everybody already forgotten that the Chinese shut down the entire world by releasing a virus just 6 years ago? It seems like we have.

Remember the story, or rather non-story, during Ol’Jo[k]e’s pseudo-presidency, about 300 Chinese men literally running across our open border, and NOT being apprehended?

That was a non-story because, well, at that time, who WASN’T running across our border? Anybody who could scrape together the money for a plane ticket to Mexico, people from 200 nations, were doing it every curséd day.

Here’s what I wanna know about this latest-discovered bio-lab: why are they calling it Chinese?

Is it staffed entirely by ethnically Chinese people?
If it is, who are they?
Are they illegal aliens, members of the 300 man dash? Are they ethnically Chinese Americans? Are they birthright American citizens whose mom engaged in “birth tourism” 20 years ago (any mention of that at the time was met with jeers about demographic paranoia) and who have now legally returned?

The scariest possibility is the first one. 300 men sprinted in here to establish such labs. Think how many labs there must BE in our country by now.

I just looked, can’t find a contemporary news report about the 300 man dash, but the Google “overview” says 450 Chinese entered illegally in 2021. That must be it. But it’s even worse than I thought: in 2023, over 24,000 illegal Chinks came in here. Most of the Chinese migrants are military aged men, but hold on: when interviewed, they say they only want “a better life” or that they’re fleeing political oppression. Oh, whew, OKAY then …..

What I DIDN’T see, in the scant footage about this recently discovered bio-lab, was any ICE or CBP agents. They’re probably scared off by the common ethnicity of the staff. They dont dare ask them for proof of citizenship. I mean, that would be to repeat the mistakes of the past, like when some of us called Covid the Wuhan Flu, the Yellow Peril, or (this one’s mine) the Sinos’ Infection.

I think this is just one of those issues, like the still-omnipresent possibility of an EMP attack, that is just too frightening to hold in our minds. So we just…don’t….think about it.

We don’t think about the indisputable facts which point to the conclusion that we have ALREADY been successfully invaded. Soon, the Chinese will release another army of microbes, and we’ll begin to sicken and die.

Hey, but at least we’ll die guiltless of the sin of racial discrimination.

Again, we come back to the standard question – Cui bono?

Why did the “Collective Biden” (as the Russians refer to the Autopen) decide that an open border, with freebies and Obama phones to encourage military-aged men to walk across, was a desirable state of affairs?

It is not just a problem with the US intelligentsia. In depressed Olde England, successive Conservative & Labour governments have encouraged massive often-illegal immigration. Even more incomprehensibly, the Scottish National Party government in Scotland – nominally committed to restoration of Scotland’s autonomy – has brought in huge numbers of dubious immigrants. And let’s not even talk about the anti-Irish activities of the immigrant-friendly Irish government!

The phenomenon seems more like a mental disease of global Ruling Classes – like the putative lemmings rushing over the cliff into the sea. But China’s and Russia’s rulers seem to be immune to this infection. Hmmmm!

Exactly on point. And I love “collective Biden”. Yea, verily, his name was legion.

Yuh, the Anglosphere is having an autophage attack.

It’s especially puzzling in the case of Ireland. How long ago is it—a decade, maybe 2? that the main thing everybody knew about Ireland was the IRA, the determination to purge the isle from the last shreds of British loyalists and of Protestantism. Wha’ hoppen?

I think about a Yeats poem which contains the lines: “ Ah, exiles, wandering over lands and seas/ And hoping, hoping always that some morrow/May set a stone upon ancestral sorrow… “

“A stone”? Enough boulders to rebuild Giants’ Causeway have been bombed on Ireland. Is Ireland even still there, Yeats’ “half-forgotten, innocent old places”? I’d be scared to visit again and find out.

UPDATE: Powerline reports tonight “In Other News” that people staying at an Airbnb owned by the same criminal Chink bozo who owns the Vegas bio lab have “fallen deathly ill”.

Why isn’t this a huge story?

Where are the sick people now? Still hospitalized, I hope. Not that I wish them ill, but, um, let’s hope they didn’t get on planes to fly home.

Love the title of this thread.

Happy to have occasioned a chuckle, but :

why aren’t you and the rest of the dear polymaths as frantic about this as I am, especially after the Powerline update?

We might, already, be looking at 2020 redux.

Remember the ebola panic? How about Y2K? Killer bees? Global warming?

The demand for disasters greatly exceeds the supply.

Remember Covid?
This is not something which may “happen” , it’s being engineered.

But I admire your manly stoicism.

Covid was manufactured by our ‘elites.’ Specifically, the panic was engineered by the political class. Covid was no worse than the Hong Kong flu or countless other prior pandemics. The mortality rate was on the order of 0.3%, mostly among the elderly and infirm. In contrast, the Black Death mortality rate was on the order of 30% (conservatively). That’s two, count 'em two, orders of magnitude higher.

The Bayeux Tapestry foresaw it all.

I absolutely agree with you, except I think the Chinese loosed the virus, and, it DID shut down the whole world

The failure about the CovidScam was that the entire Western Political Class went bonkers. It was obvious after the Real World experience of the “Diamond Princess” event (thousands of people confined for weeks on a cruise ship – only a handful of the very old & very sick died) that there was no appreciable risk to the great majority of the population. Yet Western politicians & bureaucrats went ahead with very damaging pointless limitations on their peons – aping what the well-prepared Chinese were doing.

I still suspect that the CovidScam was a deliberate test by the Chinese government of Western economies and political systems – particularly the impact of disrupting supply chains from China to the West. The CCP learned something – the Western Political Class did not.

I agree, it was a test—and we FAILED. And so many Americans colluded in the failure. They were gleeful about it: think you can just parade around, eat out, go jogging, go to the gym, FOREVER? well you CAN’T. HA, ha, how does THAT feel? Stay home, or we the righteous obedient citizens, will report you.
Remember how some Karen wrote an article, after it was over, to the effect “Please don’t blame us! Be tolerant, be understanding!l “ She knew what she and her ilk had done. And the worst, irreversible thing about it was that the Chinks saw it, too. THEY know they can count on those bozos to support destroying the American way of life AGAIN.

As for the rest of us, yeah we jeered at the Karens, male and female, but then were content just to ignore them, in our joy to be free again, released from house arrest.

It did not shut down anything. Feckless, lying politicians shut down some parts of the world. And it wasn’t even Chinese politicians. The medical profession didn’t exactly cover itself with glory either. So if you want to be angry, direct your anger at the right targets.

I still have my Governors to Gitmo t-shirt but I don’t wear it anymore because I moved to a state that has a reasonable executive: one who did not impose absurd restrictions on the people.

Well let’s just say Covid “became the occasion” for a global shutdown, As I said above “we”, collectively, failed. But OTOH what could you DO? In Pa the state licenses every possible occupation. Obey the Health Dept regs or get you license yanked. You couldn’t enter the grocery store without a mask. Gonna start a garden and take up hunting?

I know you will never let this go, and here’s the thing: I dont think there’s any real disagreement here. Governments have power over law abiding citizens . It’s the social contract. Okay so our elected government did the wrong thing.
I’ve never blamed Trump. He knew a pandemic was outta his wheelhouse, he sough advice as to whom he should enlist. Unfortunately, it didnt turn out to be good advice. If only he had tapped Dr. Atlas instead of Dr. Fauci!
And don’t forget, Mr and Ms. Karen at the time were calling for him to totally federalize health regulation. Masks and home confinement should be the law of the land!

Say whatever you will next and it’ll be the last word.

The last words - sadly - are the true statement that our “leaders” only seek power for its own sake. They are constitutionally incapable of facing genuine existential (and likely, if not inevitable) threats like EMP and/or a respiratory spread illness with 50% mortality. My attitude may be flavored by having just watched Gad Saad on “suicidal empathy”. There’s a virus (of the mind) which is about the business of killing us at the hands of every and any ideology at odds with Western. Maybe a lottery here on which one kills us all first?

At the time, I lived in the People’s Republic of California: a relatively repressive police state vis à vis Covid. My life was minimally affected. I documented much of that 2020-2021 period in photos so I wouldn’t have to rely on memory.

There was a fair amount of spontaneous civil disobedience and circumvention of the rules. We continued our “essential” work, though we weren’t that busy to be honest. I continued my morning breakfast out routine, though it sometimes required walking over to the park adjacent to the restaurant. Sometimes, it was a friendly restaurateur who would serve me in a secluded patio.

The sidewalk along the beach was closed. See how effective that was? (May 4, 2020)

My neighborhood had a block party. (May 8, 2020)

The beach was closed but not to the intrepid protesters, my neighbors (July 4, 2020).

Our oppressors closed the strand but the people opened it (also July 4)

We made fun of Gavin Newsom and his dinner at the French Laundry. (November 28, 2020)

Since rural California counties and Arizona were less restrictive, I spent time there. The Grand Canyon was open and still Grand. The lodge on the South Rim, where I enjoyed a fine dinner after a hike down to Indian Garden and back, had a lovely Christmas tree. (Dec 2, 2020).

On my way back, I encountered pack mules headed down. Note the mule driver was not wearing a mask.

I could go on, into 2021, but you get the picture. Those who wished to stay home, hiding under their beds, were free to do so. Everyone else was out having fun.

Heck no. This is a discussion board, is it not? If not, why are you here?

There is no valid social contract. The rule of law is a myth.

Yes, but in general, IMHO most people WANT an “ordered liberty”, is all I’m saying. They’ll abide by laws and restrictions themselves because they’d prefer to be able to rely on other people doing so too. I mean, that’s just the sine qua non of a productive society.

I have never been able to trace this quotation, but we are now seeing a demonstration of its veracity:

Liberty is the child of order, and the mother of chaos.
