Some years ago, I was waiting to board a plane at London City Airport and they announced the departure would be delayed a bit due to repairs because the plane had been struck by lightning during the approach from its last flight. I watched as they brought a ladder on wheels up to the wing and a mechanic “repaired” what looked like one of the landing lights with—you guessed it—grey tape. I hear they have super special expensive aerospace duct tape for such mission-critical repairs.
