At the top of the list and dwarfing every other company by revenue share is TSMC which earned 60% (or nearly $17 billion) of the entire industry’s revenue in Q1 2023.

Four of the top ten semiconductor foundries are in Taiwan, one (GlobalFoundries) is in the U.S. GlobalFoundries was spun off from AMD in 2009 when it divested its manufacturing division.

The extensor digiti minimi (or extensor digiti quinti proprius) is a muscle of the forearm which connects via a tendon to the little finger. It contracts when the little finger is raised above the plane of the palm of the hand.

People without American-style padding on their forearms can observe the extensor digiti minimi making a small bulge in the forearm when they lift their little finger above the hand.

Below is a close-up of the right arm of Michelangelo’s Moses, completed between 1513 and 1515.

The little finger of Moses’s right hand is raised slightly and—Michelangelo got it right—the extensor digiti minimi correspondingly bulges at just the right place on the forearm for this movement.

Here is much more about this and other details of Michelangelo’s Moses in Naren Katakam’s “Michelangelo’s Moses and his little finger”.

NASA RS-25 Hot Fire Test

On 2023-11-29 NASA conducted another in its series of static hot firing tests of new (RS-25) engines for use on the Space Launch System. These tests are for the full duration (650 seconds) of a normal launch. The test was conducted at the NASA Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. This test appeared to involve gimbaling (engine steering) more extreme than would be done in a normal flight profile.

Tesla Cybertruck “Cyberbeast” Model vs. Porsche 911

Wait until the end.

The “Cyberbeast” has three motors: one powering the two front wheels and two driving the rear wheels independently. In “Beast Mode”, the motors together produce 630 kW (845 horsepower).

Okay, took two watchings… was Cybertruck/Cyberbeast actually TOWING a Porsche 911 throughout the entire sequence?

Yes.

Thought so. Just hard to get my head around this. It IS a beast!

This may make me trade in my ancient 4WD ToyAuto!

You know how insane this is because the guy makes it look easy.

Real or not, the cyberbeast video is a great ad. It works for Porsche too - they haven’t forced Tesla to take it down.

Given the narrow roads in your area, bad idea.

Well, no driving range concerns on a drag strip. I wouldn’t trade for any pure EV.

I did say ‘may’…

But it wasn’t a CyberBeast. That said, I did say ‘may’…

All this shows is that torque is still king on a drag strip. Yes, you have insane HP, but it’s the torgue that goes along with that that gives you the 11 sec pass.

Higher repair costs are also helping to drive up insurance premiums for electric owners, who pay on average $357 a month for coverage compared with $248 for gas vehicle owners, according to insurance comparison website Insurify.

Rental-car company Hertz Global Holdings, which operates a large electric fleet mostly composed of Tesla vehicles, said its third-quarter profit was pinched in part because of the cost of repairing electric models.

When Scott MacFiggen’s neighbor backed into his Rivian R1T pickup truck last summer, the vehicle was left with a dent the size of a bowling ball under a rear taillamp. […] The repair bill came to $22,000, and the vehicle took 2½ months to fix.

There’s a little black spot on the Sun today.
Oh crap, it’s getting bigger, day by day.

Is this the year of the jackpot?

Meade comes out of the cabin to join Potiphar and watch the sunset. There is a rather large sunspot on the Sun’s face. Suddenly Breen realizes that this has not just been a bad year. Looking again at the article, he knows it is the final year. “Something funny is happening to the sunset,” says Meade.

“No,” replies Potiphar, “to the Sun.”
