Funny how they don’t mention the ducks’ additional benefit of abundantly fertilising the rice.

But it does implicitly answer the puzzling question, “Why do the ducks taste like snails?”

Maybe it isn’t mentioned to limit inferences about the use of “night soil”? (although with current best practices so abundantly on display in US cities 24/7, a shame-based name may have to be abandoned in favor of one not so “judgmental”).

Properly bred chickens can live year round on nothing but free-range gleaning Iowa corn field harvest leavings – and roost in trees safe from predators. I know. I did it.
