Harvesting of the bark of the cork oak (Quercus suber) tree can be done repeatedly, typically every nine to twelve years, without damaging the tree. A newly-planted tree takes 25 years before it produces sufficient cork for the first harvest, and a given tree can be harvested between five and seventeen times during its life.
