Highway bridge collapses, due frequently to fuel tanker truck fires beneath them, make the news, cause massive disruptions to transportation, and are expensive to repair, especially in a hurry. But do they happen sufficiently frequently to spend what it would take to engineer these bridges to better withstand fire?
