That article included an interview with Shane Smith, who found the signal and was lead author on the discovery paper.
Now, here is an interview with Sofia Sheikh of the Berkeley SETI Project, who led the evaluation of the signal and was lead author of the analysis paper. She discusses how the conclusion was reached that the signal (which has never repeated) was likely due to terrestrial interference from the clock oscillator in some (as yet unidentified) electronic equipment.
