Jay Leno and Elon Musk at Starbase

This is the full episode of “Jay Leno’s Garage” in which Leno visits SpaceX’s Starbase and speaks with Elon Musk. The Starbase visit is broken up into three segments, the first two at the start of the program and the third starting at the 28:00 mark. This was posted by CNBC Prime, which broadcasts the series, and is said to be for a limited time only, so this video will probably stop working at some point.

This is from U.S. television, so it is over-produced, repetitive, and lightweight, but Elon has some interesting things to say, especially about his view of the patent system and how the automotive and rocket industries have things to learn from one another.

Leno is clearly aiming at a different market than – say – Marcus House. Still, rather interesting.

Elon Musk made a rather interesting throw-away remark when he talked about living half the time at the Texas site – he rents a house from Spacex. Rents! Pays out of his own pocket.

A standard modern CEO would have the company provide him with a palatial pad, complete with hot & cold running butlers. I found Musk’s behavior to be refreshing, as well as quite impressive.
