Before I ever asked them, in 1983, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn had already anticipated and answered the questions I have been earnestly asking myself for only the past two decades. He was way ahead of me. I was late in asking: “What has happened? What is wrong in the US? What has gone so wrong in the West, in the world”? He had already witnessed the fruition of the evil he diagnosed and was good enough to share it with us while we were still in the early stages of a disease. His prescience literally leaps out of his words of 43 years ago to describe our plight today - and our trajectory. So far, we have not acted effectively and unless we reverse course and decide to stop it, all will be lost.
And it is a dis - ease. The established religion of materialism, whose central, obligatory creed is atheism - that mankind itself is unlimited and thus the ultimate authority - cost upwards of 100 million lives in the 20th century. Who could be at “ease” knowing such a fact? In light of that fact, what sentient, reasoning person could be at ease with the trajectory of Western societies if not the entire world - given the most basic familiarity with every metric - in the first quarter of this, the 21st century? The Book of Daniel instantly comes to mind, because the handwriting is, indeed on the wall.
In 1983, Solzhenitsyn was awarded the Templeton Prize. It was in his acceptance speech that he described the atheism at work, along with intentional hatreds sown by Marxists in Russia as it became the Soviet Union. Is there any doubt that today’s Marxists (also based in the academy and deep state apparatus, but calling themselves the “democrat party”) have been in the business of instilling the very same atheism, hatreds and divisions? They tell the same (or new-and-improved) blatant lies told in Russia back then to achieve the same political ends.
Central to this malevolent undertaking in pre-revolutionary Russia, was the academy - the “intellectuals”. It doesn’t take a genius to see the parallels which have been at work in the West, beginning during the heady times following the end of WWII. Today, these cadres are in total control of the academic machine and staff the entire deep state and legacy “media”. None of this is by accident. As a direct result, the list of existential issues today, for those with courage enough to abstain from bread and circuses - to merely survey the horizon - is beyond sobering. It is terrifying. As predicted, when something eventually breaks, the demand for a totalitarian solution will be irresistible. who will be organized to provide it?
In a sense, our plight is even worse that in pre-Soviet Russia. So well has the ground been prepared by the “long march through the institutions” that near half the population now find complete meaning in their lives in the singular issue or “cause” of the day. Who needs God, after all, if one is surrounded by “bad people” who do not subscribe to the latest “thing” announced by the left, as blared incessantly by what was once media. Envy and hatred appear to be sufficient substitutes for belief in God when it comes to directing the attention and activities of large swaths of society in this strictly materialist society.
I have stated my pessimism on these pages for a fair number of years and earnestly tried to understand why I have had this strong sense. Well, here is understanding. If you have the fortitude, I invite you to read it.
If you like, also consider reading a new book: God, the Science, The Evidence. Contrary to ubiquitous secularist/materialist “education” of the past decades, a rational, scientific assessment of the cosmos we observe (and the life within it) provides clear and convincing evidence of a Creator God (an intelligent designer of the universe). It is clear that this belief demands far less faith than the “many worlds” hypothesis, (infinite, in-principle un-observable, additional universes!) dreamed up to account for the fine tuning of the physical constants of the universe we inhabit.
