I just love to watch these critters walk. You can just imagine neural signals propagating down through the segments and stimulating the wave-like action in the legs.
The name “millipede” literally means “thousand feet” which always seemed an exaggeration. No more: in 2020 a species that was named Eumillipes persephone was discovered in Western Australia. One specimen had 330 body segments and 1306 legs. The genus name “Eumillipes” means “true millipede”—indeed.
