Ranching Pheasants for Game Hunting

Is there any less efficient way to obtain meat for eating?

I’m pretty sure there is.

I pay the rancher about $8/lb for the pheasants I shoot, so raising them must be more efficient than beef.

Interestingly, here is a site selling pheasant breast fillets for £16.50/kg. The supermarket I use in Switzerland sells chicken breast fillets for CHF 24.00/kg. Converting both to BidenBucks for comparison (as of 2024-01-03) yields the following:

  • Pheasant US$ 20.91/kg
  • Chicken US$ 28.27/kg

So in this case, pheasant, farm raised, is less expensive than chicken. Now, the pheasant
is from the UK while the chicken is from Switzerland, where meat is famously expensive due to a policy of protecting family farms, but even so, the prices are comparable, and pheasant, although seemingly less efficient in meat to total weight ratio, is hardly exotic in terms of cost.
