Repairing a Hewlett-Packard 5245L Frequency Counter, Part 5—Dead Out of the Box

Now that the base 5245L frequency counter is working, the next objective is to collect all of the plug-ins released over the years to extend its functionality. This time, it’s the turn of 5261A video amplifier which, unlike those those previously repaired, does not handle higher input frequencies but rather increases sensitivity down to input signals in millivolts. This model was originally introduced in 1963, then updated in 1971 to use more modern components. This unit, still in its original unopened box, has been sitting on a shelf since 1972. Will it work when plugged in half a century after its manufacture? Oh well, why not?
