It is common to have to replace capacitors in old electronics gear, but much less so to find a part which was defective when installed in a Hewlett-Packard product. Let’s open it up on the metal lathe and figure out what went wrong.

This fellow is very impressive. Is there anything about electronics he doesn’t know? I wish I had him around when one of my gadgets is misbehaving (frequently, alas). In reading about him, his name appears French, his Ph.D. is from U. of Paris. His accent, though, does not seem typically French to me, but it certainly could be.
