Forget the headline about “young men”. Men – and only men – up to the age of 45 (!) must get permission to be out of Germany for more than 3 months.
How is this going to work? It is easy to foresee incidents such as a German company which is offshoring its production & jobs to China (all the rage these days, it seems) sending some of its engineers to China for an 8 week task to set up the machinery there. But things never go smoothly, and 4 months later the German guys are still there. Are they now criminals? Or will implementation of the law end up practically applying even to day-trippers out of Germany?
Now consider the impact on politics. Why does this apply only to men? The movies show us all the time that women are stronger, faster, smarter, better shots than mere men. Why should women not be conscripted along with men and sent to die at the front?
As long as German women are exempted from conscription, there is a logical argument that childless German women should be prohibited from seeking political office and excluded from the voters rolls. German mothers are of course performing the most essential task for any society – that of rearing the next generation – and should continue to be allowed to vote and run for office.
