Looking around for technologies to pump stuff from the ocean floor comes to mind not just because cheap effective semi-autonomous robots would be great for such engineering, but because the “Caudal fin” seems like it might serve to pump stuff to the surface as an alternative to some of the other kinds of pumps that are purportedly robust for that purpose. It wasn’t immediately apparent from a patent search whether that’s been thought of. Maybe that’s because it’s unworkable for some reason not immediately apparent (at least not to me).
