The modern challenge is not that we lack opinions, but rather that we hold many contradictory ones, and it is ultimately our emotional state that determines which ones drive us to action.

His work demonstrated a startling reality: many people form their opinions almost entirely based on linguistic framing, rather than objective facts. The same individual who opposes a “death tax” may support an “estate tax” just moments later, despite these being two labels for the exact same policy. Likewise, “illegal aliens” and “undocumented immigrants” refer to the same individuals, yet elicit vastly different policy preferences.

This insight forces us to reconsider a long-standing question: if the internet has democratized access to information, why hasn’t it had the transformative social impact many anticipated?

One possible answer is that information alone is not enough to drive change—emotion determines action.
