Should the US sell California?

A thought triggered by California’s “Representatives” in making their State more to China’s liking for high density housing:

Just as the US bought Alaska from Russia, there seems to be no Constitutional obstacle to the US selling California to China. The US would give up California (which many US citizens would consider to be no loss) in exchange for China effectively assuming or writing off a large part of the Federal National Debt.

China would gain territory on the east side of the Pacific – essentially a now grossly mismanaged asset whose value could grow exponentially under Chinese direction. China would also get the psychic reward of turning the Pacific into the Gulf of China. Once China had gutted California of its politicians, lawyers, homeless, & illegal aliens and brought back solid schools & productive industry, California girls might become popular brides for the incoming tidal wave of China’s excess young men.

There would have to be some riders in the deal. China would have to agree to take the Californians – ALL of them, including the Hollywood crowd – and give them a form of Chinese citizenship; they would in essence become another minority group (surely a psychological upside for typical Californians), like the Tibetans or the Uighurs.

However, Chinese are inveterate bargainers. We might have to throw in Hawaii to close the deal – since China would be unlikely to accept New York State instead. Then with the now debt-free US sharing a land border with China, perhaps a new climate of neighborliness and world peace might evolve.

Just sell the coastal segments with the blue cities. Keep everything inland. We need to keep the agricultural areas and Yosemite, Sequoia, Lassen, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, and the like. We can flood Sacramento and make it into a bird sanctuary.

You can throw in New York, but please wait until I’ve sold my house.

Isn’t New York similar? Just a big city problem. I have an alternative proposal. We pay China to manage any city over 500,000. Their profit is based on being more efficient with the tax dollars. Our profit is to not provide any federal funding. You get one year to vote with your feet.

maybe make them Chinese embassies. Our laws apply, but are managed by Chinese.
