An earlier post here on 2023-02-01, “Soviet Soyuz ИНК Navigation Display”, looked at Ken Shirriff’s reverse-engineering of the electro-mechanical navigation computer, informally called “Globus” in the West, used in Soviet Soyuz spacecraft from the 1960s through the early 2000s.
Now, Curious Marc and the restoration team open the box of a Globus which appears to have had a rough life, with obvious dents in its exterior enclosure, diagnose and repair damage to the intricate mechanism inside, and discover a dismaying detail which may make restoring it to life a daunting or impossible prospect.
