SpaceX Transporter-5 Launch

SpaceX plans to launch Transporter-4 , its fifth dedicated small satellite ride share mission, from Cape Canaveral on Wednesday, 2022-05-25 at 16:27 UTC, with a 57 minute launch window. The mission will launch 59 payloads for a variety of customers into a Sun-synchronous orbit. Falcon 9 first stage booster B1061 will be making its eighth flight, with landing back at Cape Canaveral LZ-1. Here is the pre-launch preview from Everyday Astronaut.

Notable among the payloads is Nanoracks’ Outpost Demonstration Mission 1, which hopes to demonstrate cutting three pieces of stainless steel (the same alloy used in the Vulcan Centaur upper stage) using a technique called “friction milling”, which cuts metal without generating fragments that would become space debris.

The mission was a complete success, with beautiful and uninterrupted coverage of the landing from both the first stage and the ground. I have cued the replay to start one minute before launch. Coverage of the second stage circularisation burn is at 1:07 in the video and deployment of the satellites begins at 1:11 (not all are visible).
