Storm Surge at Fort Myers Beach, Florida

Here is the storm surge from Hurricane Ian entering Fort Myers Beach, Florida on 2022-09-29. This was recorded from a camera said to be mounted more than 8 feet (2.4 metres) above street level.

The downtown area was described as “leveled”. Here is a walk-though after the storm. It looks like some buildings survived without damage obvious from the outside, probably due to the type of construction.

This video shows a house in Fr. Myers Beach being ripped from its foundation and washed away by the storm surge which, in this area, the video description says was 15 feet (4.5 metres). Note the depth to which the palm trees in the foreground were submerged. At the end is a view of the aftermath after the water recedes.
