Ingenious, but only confirming what I’ve heard and occasionally seen over the years.

Of course, putting things into recycling bins makes us feel so good and righteous

That’s why I’ll steer my grandkids towards lucrative careers in landfill mining

Gabriel Shin, a 27-year veteran firefighter with the San Francisco Fire Department, was brutally attacked by a fellow firefighter, Robert Muhammad, in February 2022[1][2][4]. Muhammad had a history of threatening and aggressive behavior towards Shin and other firefighters, which SFFD officials failed to address[1].

On the day of the attack, Muhammad retrieved Shin’s home address from an SFFD database and a 15-inch brass hydrant wrench from a fire truck[4]. He then drove to Shin’s Oakland home and assaulted him, leaving Shin with a broken arm, swollen arm, and concussion[4].

Shin alleges that after the attack, SFFD officials pressured him to drop the criminal charges against Muhammad and end his cooperation with the police investigation[3][5]. When Shin refused, he was placed under investigation and eventually let go by the department, while Muhammad continues to work for SFFD and receive a paycheck[2][3].

Shin has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city, Muhammad, Fire Chief Jeanine Nicholson, and other SFFD officials, alleging battery, assault, race discrimination, disability discrimination, and retaliation[1][2][3].

The query refers to the court case “Shin v. Nicholson” in the United States District Court, Northern District of California. The case involves Gabriel Shin, a firefighter, who was allegedly attacked by a coworker, Muhammad. Shin claims that the San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) ratified the attack by failing to investigate and respond appropriately, leading to further harassment and mistreatment. The court ruled on various motions to dismiss and strike, allowing some claims to proceed while dismissing others. Key points include:

  1. Battery and Assault: The court allowed Shin’s claims for battery and assault against the City to proceed, as he alleged a plausible claim for ratification of the attack by the SFFD.
  2. Negligence: The negligence claims against the City were dismissed due to insufficient factual allegations against specific individuals.
  3. Harassment: The racial harassment claims were dismissed for lack of evidence, but the disability harassment claims were allowed to proceed.
  4. Racial Discrimination: Claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1981 and 42 U.S.C. § 1983 were dismissed due to insufficient allegations of discriminatory intent.
  5. Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress: The IIED claims against the City and individual defendants were allowed to proceed, as the allegations described a coordinated plan to harass and punish Shin.
  6. Punitive Damages: The motion to strike punitive damages allegations was denied, as the court found them relevant to the case[1].

I am so old I remember when we were all told that the world would be a much better place when women were in positions of power – fairer, more reasonable, more compassionate.

We carefully wash everything recyclable, save it, then drive 20 miles to put them in a mostly trash filled bin at the recycling station because it makes certain family members feel righteous. While they agree that it takes more energy than could ever be recovered we’re “doing our part to save the planet”

Stablecoins, a type of cryptocurrency pegged to fiat currencies like the U.S. dollar, could help stave off a potential U.S. debt crisis by becoming a reliable source of new demand for U.S. government debt[1]. According to the Treasury Department and DeFi Llama, dollar-backed stablecoins are already an important net purchaser of Treasurys, sitting just outside the top 10 countries holding U.S. government debt[1]. If the stablecoin sector continues to grow, it could become one of the largest buyers of U.S. debt[1].

The only reason for a rational person or entity to buy any form of debt (your debt, my asset) is if that entity has high confidence the debt will be repaid in the future.

With the US government already having a huge clearly-unrepayable National Debt, a growing annual Budget Deficit, and a Trade Deficit which means it is not earning enough ever to repay the debt, why would any rational person or entity think that slapping a new label on more debt will stimulate new demand for it?

Clearly they wouldn’t. So we once again watch as “people” talk about fairy princesses and unicorns as if they are real. THIS is why there has been the recent uprising against the current regimes in so many places - both at home and abroad. You can only live in a fantasy world in your head or a book.
