The Crazy Years

I had assumed that at the time. In general it is a miracle a squid would get the business end of a rifle pointed away from them. That is why they have Marines. Perhaps he took the Gunny’s crayon ration away and they got revenge.

How Navy chiefs conspired to get themselves illegal warship Wi-Fi

This is hilarious. Whoever wrote that article is pretending that the Senior Chiefs and their corrupt dealings aren’t part of the glue that holds the ships together.

Actually I suspect if the guilty had confessed with less lying and misdirection once given an order to reveal the scheme we might never have heard of it. The Navy generally prizes initiative, but disobeying direct orders is going to get you in serious trouble.

I’m also curious what measures, if any, were taken to make sure the ship EMCON (emissions control) wasn’t compromised by the Starlink/WiFi setup. The Starlink uplink dish itself is pretty directional and should be fairly hard to trace. Lord knows the Russians are having a hard time in Ukraine. The WiFi is omni, but has a short range especially in humid air (and through a metal hull?). But maybe with a good receiver and knowing the ship is out there it could be traced.

I came across a parody account on Twitter/X that retweets covid freaks who are still wearing masks and are hysterical about catching the dreaded plague. Their favorite hashtags appear to be #SaltingTheVibes and #maskup. The timeline is full of the stereotypical weirdos: blue hair, trannies, and pronoun-obsessives.

Reading through these posts is simultaneously amusing and worrisome. The level of mental instability on display is remarkable. Fortunately, these kooks identify themselves to the rest of us by wearing their insanity on their faces: a form of aposematism.

Enjoy, if you dare:

I still wear a respirator, and unlike my unmasked friends, I don’t get sick after travel. How kooky of me.

Chudson is recommending the Novavax vaccine which is a choice one if one wants to minimize side effects. Seems pretty in-the-know for a parody account.

I’ll see your anecdote and raise you:
I don’t wear a mask and also don’t get sick after travel. Two weeks ago I returned from a three-week sojourn in Europe, during which I visited Norway and the United Kingdom and interacted with many strangers. Still not sick.

He’s having you on. If you somehow remain in doubt that this is a parody account, take a moment to check out his bio: “The “P” stands for Parody.”

A comedian I knew claimed that about 1/3 of people don’t understand jokes. I once thought this was implausible but the last few years have lent credence to his thesis.

Pines, a rocket scientist and diversity activist, does not appear to have made any changes to Altmann’s work except removing some sentences and Americanizing the Australian’s British spelling (turning “analyse” to “analyze,” e.g.) — but Pines missed two such words, “endeavour” and “modelling,” which remain in his work with the spelling commonly used abroad.

How do you miss modeling? Hasty spell check
