The Year of Looking Back

This year, Russia looked back to the victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War with a very impressive multi-national (but no Westerners) military parade in Red Square.

Then the US Army looked back on its 250 year history with a sadly less-impressive military parade in DC.

Now China is gearing up for its 80-year celebration of the eventual defeat of Japan, with a planned military parade and – to whet the appetite – a multi-language video celebrating China’s forces.

As for Europe? Well, when expectations about them are so low, it is hard for them to fall short. But they try!

Quite a slick and understated production - including English language used.

Leaping dolphins! A tiny saved scuttling crab! Strong women, but no transvestites. Really, the US military should outsource its PR to whichever Chinese agency put this together.

And Europe might consider outsourcing its entire military efforts to China. After all, there are Chinese parts in every European weapon.
