Ukraine and Russia: War and Consequences

CW – if only that meeting had involved a mere hundred generals! Which was enough generals, by the way, to defeat Japan (almost singlehandedly) and Germany (with a lot of help from … um … Russia – I mean the Soviet Union) only 80 odd years ago.

The meeting was almost an order of magnitude larger – 800 generals, admirals, etc. An obvious case of bloat.

The Eurocrats don’t want to get into war with Russia. They want the US to get into a war with Russia.

So their likely false flag would be to blow up a large US refinery or three and blame it on Russia.

Do you seriously think EU is capable of false flag operations? 27 countries? Coordinated to do a false flag?

With the US navel-gazing and no longer supporting the NATO alliance, however, EU will come up with executive branch pretty soon. Then such things will become possible and more.

On the topic of fighting wars to defend “democracy”: it seems that term-expired Ukrainian deputies quite like election-free “democracy”.

Ukraine cancels local elections — RT Russia & Former Soviet Union

Local elections in Ukraine were scheduled to take place at the end of October. However, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced on Wednesday that the parliament had passed a resolution that officially recognizes that it is impossible to hold elections during wartime. The decision was adopted with 308 deputies voting in favor, none against and one abstention.”

This appears to be a hybrid - of East German (99% yes votes for the “leaders”) and “Our Democracy™”, employing the best/worst (depending on perspective) of both tyrannical systems.

Russia Today posting on the topic of Ukraine is hardly impartial, right?

It appears to be Fact that the term-expired deputies in the Ukraine’s “democratic” assembly did indeed vote to stop local elections. If the NYT chose not to report that Fact, so be it.

It is a reflection of the current insanity of the West that Facts can be characterized as anything other than “impartial”.

Are you questioning the facts reported or is it just that you don’t like the source? In short, is it true the elections were canceled or not? If it is not true, then please provide a source that says so. Otherwise, your comment is vacuous.

And, btw, Ukraine did cancel elections in 2024, so it hardly strains credulity that they might have canceled some more elections.

Addendum:
It seems that elections are not held if martial law is in effect. The source for this information is Ukrainska Pravda. And you know what they used to say back in Soviet days: There’s no news in Pravda and no truth in Izvestia. Hmmm, I wonder if there’s a Ukrainian Izvestia; the joke doesn’t work as well without it. Anyhow, given that martial law is extended through November, logic dictates that there won’t be elections in October (October coming before November and all).

Bummer, eh, @eggspurt?

It is also worth remembering that the US of the 1940s did manage to hold a nation-wide Presidential election in the middle of a global conflagration when millions of citizens were overseas in combat.
This is not a direct parallel to the situation in the Ukraine, but it does suggest that a regime that was truly interested in “democracy” could at least find ways to hold local elections in much of the country. The decision not to do so suggests that the current regime in the Ukraine is afraid of what the results of such local elections might show.

But let’s keep borrowing money to give to Zelensky in the name of defending “democracy”!

That is certainly an idea. Two immediate problems are apparent:

One is that the city of Kiev spans the Dneiper river – would a boundary running through a major city really be stable? Think Berlin Wall.

Other is the Odessa issue – an undoubtedly Russian city, founded by Catherine the Great, west of the Dneiper. Early in the conflict, Russia was prepared to kiss goodbye to Odessa; today, after so many Russians have died in the proxy war, maybe not so much.

The real issue in this war is the belligerence of the Euroscum and much of the US Political Class. Without that support (provocation?), the Zelensky regime would long ago have come to the table to negotiate. The only solution I can see to that belligerence is the Coming Economic Collapse of the West.

Let’s all enjoy life today, because Our Betters are ensuring much misery in the future – for all of us.
