Eeekh, did anybody see Trump and Zelensky’s row just now? Z is NOT signing the minerals deal. Trump and Vance attacked him for not being at all thankful for all the American $$$ he already gotten. Told him he’da lost to Russia long ago if it weren’t for us. I dk what Z will do now; I think they continued the negotiations in private —and I kinda think maybe they never shoulda had the thing televised.
I just hope most people see it like I do: Trump, as usual, said what all his voters re thinking.

I beg to disagree, respectfully of course. My guess is that this was Plan B if Zelensky did not come to Jesus – basically, have a very public spat in which President Trump berated Zelensky for not wanting to negotiate, and VP Vance berated him for not at least showing some gratitude for all the assistance he had received.
Now the US has the required excuse to wash our hands of the Ukrainian situation. Presumably someone has prepared a plan for what to do if Zelensky comes crawling back – maybe “Hold Elections!” In the meantime, it has to help with the US’s true geostrategic imperative, which is repairing relationships with Russia (to which the Ukraine is a frustrating impediment).
From Zelensky’s perspective, the smart thing might indeed be to hold elections, make sure he gets voted out, and retire to one of those villas in Italy. Kind of tough on his psyche, though – one time you go to the Swamp and all those CongressScum clap like seals; next time you go to the White House and get smacked.
Meanwhile, the war and the killing grind on. Sad!

President Clinton never submitted that to the Senate for ratification. The world knows that treaties with the U.S. are worth less than the paper they are printed on if they aren’t ratified. Unratified treaties are subject to the whim of the current President.

He appears to have said “rare” once and thereafter “raw” seven times. That’s it. Seven painful times in a row. Of those seven, the autocaption has one as “rear” that sounded more like “rowr”. One for eight on basic English is well below the Mendoza line. Do you think he knows what they are?

I doubt that one in ten politicians could point out the rare earths on the periodic table. On second thought, that’s probably too generous. What Trump probably knows about them is that they are strategic materials. For his purposes, that is sufficient. But I agree, the “raw” instances are cringe.

I ask, quite respectfully, what items in the Budapest Memorandum the U.S. has not honored? The only possible item I see is item 3:
Refrain from economic coercion designed to subordinate to their own interest the exercise by Ukraine, the Republic of Belarus and Kazakhstan of the rights inherent in its sovereignty and thus to secure advantages of any kind.

Budapest is a Memo not a Treaty
NATO is a treaty and new membership requires yes votes from 67 Senators.
