Allegiance to Systems is a disease! Disengage the trim system and hand. fly. the. aircraft!!! (manipulate trim in “snippets” with backup system and both guys watching the indicator).
Trimmed state = an angle-of-attack = an indicated airspeed.
Therefore, if they had REDUCED thrust the nose would have come down(!) Yeah—not likely at night and very counter-intuitive.
