The idea was smart mobs:

“Smart mobs consist of people who are able to act in concert even if they don’t know each other… because they carry devices that possess both communication and computing capabilities”.

“Smart” was a misnomer. The reality is zombie mobs:

It’s an important topic. If it’s been cell phones 20 years ago, smart phones provide a greater degree of control, and augmented reality will push this even further:

Maybe we can use this thread to collect and explore examples of remotely controlled humans.

Reducing human agency emerges from high population densities where the appeal of last resort in dispute processing is group (war) as opposed to individual (duel) force.
