The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into Sunday’s incident involving United Airlines Flight 169, a Boeing 767-400 operating from Venice to Newark, which struck a light pole while on approach to Newark Liberty International Airport.

The United Boeing 767 was making a rare landing on runway 29 (short, less than 7000 feet) - probably because of strong crosswinds on EWR’s long parallel runways 04/22. It does not have ILS, so approach altitude (slope of glide to touchdown) is not as precise as with an ILS. The approach end of that runway is very close to the NJ Turnpike.
New images show some of the damage from Sunday’s collision between a 767 and semi and a light pole along the New Jersey Turnpike. I’m including a gash in the side of the airplane. pic.twitter.com/rx4Nwbf28g
