At ~30 miles from the epicenter, I didn’t notice it.

Richter 4.0–4.9: Noticeable shaking of indoor objects and rattling noises. Felt by most people in the affected area. Slightly felt outside. Generally causes zero to minimal damage. Moderate to significant damage is very unlikely. Some objects may fall off shelves or be knocked over.

While people can make fun of the New York earthquake all they want, an earthquake in an area where it is extremely rare must be a very dangerous thing – the level of preparedness and robustness is very low when compared to to an area where earthquakes are more or less regular.
I would be much more comfortable to experience a magnitude 5 earthquake in California or Japan than in New York.

A 5.5 in a northeastern city would likely level most of the brick buildings and some of the steel and concrete buildings and critically damage many other steel and concrete buildings and all the other brick ones.
A 6.5 would almost completely flatten it.

It seems to be a commonly accepted fact among seismologists that seismic activity can be influenced by geothermal anomalies. There’s plenty of research on the subject, some of which long predates the global warming panic.
