The Barbershop is a safe space. Everyone needs a safe space. The reason “safe space” has become an object of derision by conservatives is that it is associated with insular power in the guise of collectivist “victim groups” that are driving individualist cultures to extinction by depriving individualist cultures of their own safe spaces.

There are a lot fewer data centers than substations.

Back in the pre-YouTube days I put a video of construction of the Google data center in The Dalles, OR online and some people tried to get it taken down.

Why?

The only reason given was “Violation of privacy.”

Pot

Kettle

Go after the cooling. Most of these data centres are cooled by evaporation of water or water to air heat exchangers. These have exposed and fragile fins to maximise surface area are are highly vulnerable to something as modest as a .50 BMG round. Further, a few rounds fired to disable the cooling will prevent mitigation by repair crews due to Safetyland fear of follow-on attacks on soft targets.

Just sayin’.

Single points of failure in critical systems like that are systemic: The lack of resilience is a direct consequence of the addiction to centralization – which is itself a consequence of moral hazard.

This is why what I called “The Primary Discipline” of comm protocol for VIEWTRON back in '82 was that the processor in the terminal be treated as “the host system closest to the customer”. Nowadays called P2P – or Edge Computing – all of which have been deep-sixed by the aforementioned systemic addiction.

No one wants to pay the insurance premiums to underwrite resilience – probably because so many people think they can just take the money and run to leave the collapsing infrastructure behind. The insurance industry is – like everything else in our “axiom of nonaggression” society, rife with fraud. You eventually pay a lot more for indulging fraud than you do for indulging occasional “watering” of the Tree of Liberty.
