Several EU countries recently increased shipping rates and imposed customs processing for foreign packages. As a result, AliExpress is shipping first to Hungary, there someone relabels the packages and ships them within EU at local rates.

At some point one has to stop relying on regulation, entitlements and taxes, and start relying on efficiency, merit and equity (equity as in ‘skin in the game’ and not equity as in ‘to everyone according to his needs, from everyone according to his abilities’).

One wonders what the impact of this decline in parcel volume will be on airlines, since it is a good guess that many of those 80% of parcels arrived in the US by air. And freight revenue provides a nice incremental income to passenger air services … or at least used to.

Really what happened to the concept of free trade versus the actual practice is that most if not all countries cheated. The cheating wasn’t catastrophic until China went full max cheater.

Most countries cheated here and there. China cheats in every way they can think of and puts a lot of effort into thinking of how to increase its ability to cheat.
