Photographic Film Manufacturing at Kodak (1): Film Substrate Production

I worked in polyester film manufacturing for several years and built a full film manufacturing line around 2010 for optical grade films. Very interesting to see how Kodak does some things significantly different than we do.

In the mid 90s the photographic business was spun off and eventually purchased by Kodak. I am looking forward to the video of the coating of the photographic emulsion. I never worked on this process, but my understanding is that it is done in the dark. It is hard enough to coat in the light.

I’m looking forward to that too. In particular, I’m curious whether the advent of affordable thermal and long-wave infrared imaging gear (using photons with energy insufficient to activate any grain in the film) allows people to work in the coating area and still see what’s going on.

So revealing tour, that I am praying that the Kodak employee that invited guests is able to keep his job!

Superb video THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
