Relativity Space—3D Printing an Orbital Launcher

Relativity Space is preparing its Terran 1 two stage orbital launcher for an initial test flight later in 2022. The rocket and its methane/LOX engines are fabricated almost entirely by additive manufacturing (3D printing), allowing rapid evolution of the design and minimising the specialised tooling required to fabricate and assemble components. Relativity CEO Tim Ellis discusses technology, design, and market strategy with Marcus House, including plans for the larger, fully reusable, Terran R launcher under development.
