The Handley Page Victor was a mainstay of Britain’s airborne nuclear deterrent forces between 1958 and 1968. After the nuclear mission was taken over by submarine-launched Polaris missiles, Victors were converted for strategic reconnaissance and, like this aircraft, refuelling. The last Victor was retired from Royal Air Force service in 1993.
