Biden said in a statement on Monday that his administration was ready to “expeditiously” negotiate a new framework but that Russia should demonstrate that it is ready to resume work on nuclear arms control with the United States.

The Russian Foreign Ministry is slipping. The automatic response to this should have been a statement welcoming resumption of talks – just as soon as the Biden Administration demonstrates good faith by stopping supplying weapons & information which are being used to kill civilians & soldiers in the Ukraine.

Of course, the real explanation for Biden’s statement – which Biden is certainly unaware he made – is that some bureaucrat has a specific objective to engage Russia in these talks, and Annual Performance Review time is approaching.

From the aptly titled Absolute Zero report (source)

We have to cut our greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050: that’s what climate scientists tell us, it’s what social protesters are asking for and it’s now the law in the UK. But we aren’t on track. For twenty years we’ve been trying to solve the problem with new or breakthrough technologies that supply energy and allow industry to keep growing, so we don’t have to change our lifestyles. But although some exciting new technology options are being developed, it will take a long time to deploy them, and they won’t be operating at scale within thirty years.

The next two decades will be interesting. This does help put in a clearer context some of the recent news about Heathrow apparently arbitrarily limiting capacity this summer.

The report calls out for all airports to be closed down in the UK and all shipping to decline to 0 by the 2030s.

As well it should have. It’s a travesty to have an “electric Vette” when the gas ones are SO KOOL!

We had a post here about this report on 2022-06-01, “Here Is Your ‘Absolute Zero’ Future, Serf”.

Sorry for posting the table again - the table did look familiar when I posted earlier but it hit home harder now than back in June. These folks really mean to take a crazy goal and make it happen by resolutely chipping away at the conveniences of modern life.

Beyond the nearly religious fervor of self-flagellation for imagined guilts and harms brought on the planet, there are significant economic interests that are happy to make gobs of money “building down” and “building it back better”. So much for stakeholder capitalism.

The “serf” appellative you used in the earlier thread’s title is quite appropriate unfortunately.

You are being too kind. These people do not intend to feel the sting of the whip on their backs. “Peon flagellation”. Now there is a movement they can all get behind!

One example: the battery-powered Porsche Taycan has over 8,000 chips. That will double or triple by the end of the decade, according to Volkswagen.

It was either Al-Zawahri or a family of innocent people. 50/50 at this point.
