The Crazy Years

There is that one glaring exception – professional sports teams. When meritocracy results in the “diverse” group coming out on top, then meritocracy rules and diversity is ignored. There are no short female Asians on professional basketball teams. This phenomenon should probably be filed under “hypocrisy”.

To commemorate the ascension of the new British monarch, celebrated artist Sacha Jafri’s artwork titled “The Coronation of King Charles III”, that has been selected as a special present for the Dubai Royal Family, reflects the Monarch’s profound love for the UAE, nurtured through his various visits here.

The artist also elucidated about his perspective on the large-scale 3 x 3 metre canvas that celebrates the ethos behind King Charles III’s reign, depicting his sense of duty and future visions for the United Kingdom.

He says, “I was approached by Simon Penney, the British Consulate General to the UAE. But they also have the embassy in Dubai and he (Penney) is also His Majesty’s trade commissioner to the MENA region. It’s a really an honour to be approached by him to be commissioned to create this painting to celebrate King Charles III’s coronation and create a painting that is then a gift for the ruling Al Maktoum family. I think it’s a big honour, to be asked to do that painting. I wanted to create something a little bit different that one would normally imagine as a coronation painting.”

Adjacent to King Charles’s head rests a photograph featuring exposed feet, subtly alluding to environmentalism.

Positioned above the King, an arrow directs attention to his scepter while bearing his historically vocal position as a “defender of all faiths."

“then the most important thing, is the fact that every Monarch up till now has been the defender of the faith. So, Queen Elizabeth II, the defender of the faith, whereas King Charles is the first monarch to make a statement that he is King Charles III, the defender of all faiths. He’s made a point of saying that and that is now his official title. That is obviously a central part of the painting.”

Just a short distance away on the canvas, clearly labelled symbols representing the world’s prominent religions are thoughtfully arranged. These additions serve as visual representations, effectively illustrating the philosophical perspectives embraced by the new King.

I wasn’t sure what this policy of deferring the fitness test for minorities until starting their training, while requiring white men to pass the fitness test before being recruited, was all about.

But think about it. These are recruiters, who are being rewarded or penalised based upon their ability to meet group quotas among recruits. I’ll bet there is no follow-up or penalty if and when these “recruits” wash out during the training process. By washing out unfit white males before recruitment but not testing minorities until afterward, they can approach the recruiting quotas and who cares what happens to the minorities after they show up for the training.

Well, at least until the perfumed princes of diversity discover the “disparate impact” of the fitness test and “re-norm” it to prevent washing out all of those recruits in the first week.

The REAL test is combat. Wonder what the RAF kill v killed ratio will be now.

Which is funny because in other areas of law such acts are not considered by the. Court. For instance in a claim of self defense, the propensity of the “victims” race to commit crime will not be accepted to describe the victim as a threat.

Here is the complete “legal opinion” [PDF] from which the above highlighted screen shots were made. This is a press release from the California insurance commissioner crowing over this blow against biology, “Commissioner Lara takes proactive step to ensure transgender youth have access to gender-affirming medical care for gender dysphoria”.

“Today the State of California has put insurance companies on notice that they cannot deny access to medically-necessary care based on outdated rules that are not supported by evidence or scientific consensus,” said Dr. Ward Carpenter, Co-Director of Health Services at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. “In so doing, the state not only expands access to health care but also takes an important step in saving the lives of transgender and non-binary (TGNB) adolescents struggling with gender dysphoria, depression and suicidal thoughts. Decisions about an adolescent’s health must be left to the patient, their families and their care providers, not to insurance companies.”

The World Professional Association for Transgender Health, an international professional association that provides evidence-based standards of care for transgender people, states that male chest reconstruction surgery to treat gender dysphoria could be carried out in individuals under 18 “depending on an adolescent’s specific clinical situation and goals for gender identity expression.” The use of rigid age criteria in determining medical necessity, and thus insurance coverage, for female-to-male chest reconstruction surgery does not allow consideration of each individual’s unique clinical situation, contrary to the generally accepted standards of care for transgender health and the requirements of state and federal law.

See, it’s not a double mastectomy any more, it’s “male chest reconstruction surgery”. And it’s not California any more, it’s whack-a-doodle land.

A San Francisco business owner says he may have to leave the city after a group of thieves smashed the window of his store and made off with over $100,000 of merchandise.

Anyone in that State registered as anything other than Republican—and I’m aware that the GOP ain’t all that—should be forced to stay in California for the rest of their days. You voted for it you eat it!

The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration confirmed the War of 1812 license plates, which were the state’s default plates from 2012 to 2016, bear a URL that no longer leads to its intended website.

The plates, designed by the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, bear the URL www.starspangled200.org, which was originally the website for Star-Spangled 200 Inc., the commission-affiliated nonprofit that raised funds for bicentennial projects and events.

Residents recently reported the website now redirects to a gambling website based in the Philippines.

Here is where the URL on these license plates is now redirected.

Still reflects the average v. margin fallacy. If 80% of power is from “green” sources but the marginal is fossil fuel (whether marginal baseline or marginal at the moment), the effect is that 100% of you charging your new electric car should be attributed to fossil fuel, not 20%.

On 2023-06-08, former U.S. president and 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump was indicted by prosecutors from the U.S. department of “justice” on a variety of charges, with the headline item being 18 U.S. Code § 793 - “Gathering, transmitting or losing defense information”. This a provision of the Espionage Act of 1917, originally enacted under the Woodrow Wilson administration in that year and subsequently amended. The Espionage Act was originally part of Title 50 (War and National Defense) of the U.S. Code, but moved in the 1940s to Title 18 (Crime and Criminal Procedure).

Donald Trump, thus, joins Pentagon Papers whistle-blower Daniel Ellsberg, Chelsea Manning, Julian Assange, and Edward Snowden among those indicted under this act. Conviction under this statute can carry a prison sentence of up to ten years.

Donald Trump is the first former U.S. president to be indicted under this act, representing the final ga-lumph of the U.S., which has been circling the banana republic bowl ever faster in recent years, as it goes down the pipe, but he is not the first presidential candidate to be so indicted. Who was the first?

Eugene V. Debs, five-time presidential candidate of the Socialist Party of America (1900, 1904, 1908, 1912, and 1920), who was convicted in September 1918 on ten counts of sedition for a speech he made in June 1918 urging resistance to the military draft. Debs subsequently ran for president in the 1920 election from his cell in the Atlanta Federal Penitentary, receiving 919,799 votes, 3.4% of the popular vote.

On 1921-12-23, president Warren Harding commuted Debs’s sentence to time served, and he was released on Christmas Day. On the way home, he was welcomed at the White House by president Harding, who said, “Well, I’ve heard so damned much about you, Mr. Debs, that I am now glad to meet you personally.”

Between 1921 and 1923, presidents Harding and Coolidge released all people convicted under the Wilson Espionage and Sedition Acits. On 2020-12-13, the Sedition Act provisions were repealed, leaving the Espionage Act in effect.
