I like to use the term paleolibertarian, e.g. Lysander Spooner had more or less the right idea by defining “legitimate government” as a “mutual insurance company”. I say “more or less” because there are some nuanced points to consider that Spooner missed due to the historic circumstances. The problem with a mere capitalization change (e.g. “Libertarian” which I agree should be considered a kind of “brand name” along the lines of Libertarian™ that was used to serve their Maoist Intelligence masters) is it only conveys the all-important distinction to an esoteric core of libertarians. It’s maddening in the extreme which I why I have such extreme antipathy toward those of the Libertarian™ persuasion.
While Galt’s Gulch had some notion of exclusivity along paleolibertarian lines, it didn’t seem to sink in to the Libertarian™ movement that maybe reliance on an outside property insurance regime could never be considered anything but a temporary stopgap.
A more realistic myth than Galt’s Gulch is Camp 38:
If the nations that claim jurisdiction over our lives and the land we live on become too meddlesome in the way we live, we can move to islands or other continents where others claim jurisdiction until the trouble has blown over.
