The Crazy Years

The total mass of the baseline missile is only 700kg which means it is not carrying a huge payload.

I assume these would largely be new build. The modifications would involve adding a large booster which means bigger launch canisters and associated transport. Why scrap the existing launch platforms?

Japan Times: “The Defense Ministry is looking to deploy its ground-launched Type-12 standoff missiles — and extend their range from around 200 kilometers (124 miles) to more than 1,000 km — mainly to its far-flung southwestern islands and the Kyushu region, the Yomiuri daily reported, citing unidentified government sources.

Looking at the map, firing from the far South West islands would allow Japan to drop explosives on a few parts of the Chinese coastline. Closest part of the main Japanese islands to China is about 800 km. To hit a serious target, the Japanese missiles would have to overfly Korea and hope they don’t get shot down. Seems more like kabuki theater than genuine military preparedness. Especially recognizing that the Chinese response to attacks on a few coastal cities would probably be to turn Tokyo into a hole in the ground.

If Japan wanted real deterrence, they would have to go nuclear with missiles with at least 2,500 km range.

Firing from the Taiwan-adjacent islands, they could hit shipping between the mainland and Taiwan.

810 km from Nagasaki to Shanghai. Sandbag an actual range of 1500km and you can reach Beijing. Hope that India has gotten their warheads below 400 lbs. and will sell you 10.

Mark, who asked to be identified only by his first name for fear of potential reputational harm, had been caught in an algorithmic net designed to snare people exchanging child sexual abuse material.

It would have been more embarrassing if the headline was: “A man sent a photo of his penis to his urologist and Google flagged him as a child pornographer”.

Daily Mail Australia, 2022-08-21

A teenage girl now reportedly identifies as a cat with the Melbourne private school where she attends supporting her ‘animal behaviour’.

The year eight student does not speak during school hours, according to the report in the Herald Sun, despite being described as ‘phenomenally bright’.

A parent reportedly told the paper that the school let the girl behave like a cat as long as it did not distract her or other students.

‘No one seems to have a protocol for students identifying as animals, but the approach has been that if it doesn’t disrupt the school, everyone is being supportive,’ a source close to the family told the newspaper.

‘Furries’ is a sub-culture of people who identify as animals, often dressing up in costumes as part of what they call their ‘fursonas’.

There have been reports of students identifying as ‘furries’ at US schools.

In January, a Michigan school district was forced to deny that litter boxes were provided to students who identify as ‘furries’ after a woman made the claim in a school board meeting last month.

District superintendent Michael E. Sharrow replied it was ‘unconscionable’ that he had to address the issue in an email to parents that was also posted on Facebook.

Brisbane psychologist Judith Locke said she was not surprised by the emergence of the ‘furry’ trend.

She claimed it was only a matter of time before people began to identify as animals after romanticising them in their lives, in film and television.

‘But there’s a real challenge around the acceptance of people’s decisions on how they see themselves these days; it is a fraught area.’

Australian adolescent psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg said he had only come across one client who identified as an animal in his 25 years of practice.

The client was a young boy who identified as a dog.

Dr Carr-Gregg said once the stressors in his life were removed, the boy resorted back to identifying as a human being.

According to Furry website Furscience three quarters of those adopting ‘fursonas’ are under the age of 25.

Oklahoma vaccine allocation policy:

Beginning Monday, the vaccine will be available at county health departments in Oklahoma to a third category of people at risk for monkeypox: anyone who identifies as a gay or bisexual man, a man who has sex with men, or transgender and has had any of the following in the last two weeks:

Sex with two or more partners
Sex at a commercial sex venue
Sex in association with an event or venue
Sex in a geographical area where monkeypox is circulating at high levels

Healthcare workers are not a priority unless they’ve had skin-to-skin contact with a case.

The “Decadence festival” is proceeding as planned, in spite of “emergency”:

In the meantime, the virus continues to spread, with more and more cases among women and children - a result of non-sexual transmission:

The Bipartisan Big Tech Antitrust Bill Falls Victim to Political Gridlock

Now we know which senators care most about censorship or “moderation”:

Four Democratic Senators also wrote to Klobuchar, asking to address parts of the bill that would hinder content moderation. Republicans, who tend to view Silicon Valley discrimination against conservative websites and voices as just as pernicious a problem as its discrimination against smaller rivals, suggested such a change would be a nonstarter.

“This state of play puts Klobuchar between a rock and a hard place. She can either placate Democrats or Republicans, but not both,” wrote the Hill last week.

Oh I wonder which way she is going to break in the end here? Hmmmm,. something tells me I already know the answer, and this bill will die a glorious death.

How many “likes” does one get for killing a Big Tech reform bill? How many rivals can one deplatform? So many benefits to “playing ball” and little downside … EXCEPT FUELING PARALLEL PLATFORMS THAT WILL DELIVER A TRUE 4TH ESTATE.

It’s worth noting that there are voices also on the left advocating for free speech:

Yes, in fact there are voices on the Left who are very open to joining forces with the Populist Right on a handful of topics, most notably in the realm of foreign policy and interventionist warfare. Jimmy Dore certainly fits this bill. We are fools to not join with them on a national politics level.

Taking an engine off a plane on the lot to put on a similar plane now being built sounds so stupid I had to look:

In total, the aerospace manufacturer has 290 Boeing 737 MAX jets in storage, around half of which were destined for Chinese customers. However, with China’s aviation authority yet to recertify the MAX and some Chinese carriers trimming their orders, Boeing has been left in a difficult spot.

This is not “Crazy Years”, this is deliberate planned economic warfare. And it is succeeding too! People in the West simply can’t let themselves recognize what is happening – and why – and where it all ends!

Marin is 30-something. She is in a high leadership position. People in the 30-something age bracket usually don’t quite have the maturity for serious leadership positions unless they have been seriously involved in intense combat (which tends to be a crucible for teaching good leadership - or die).

It seems she is doing a passably good job leading the nation. All this obsessing with 30-something actions is unusual. It implies the observers fail to understand the maturing process. Certainly Newsom’s behavior during his state’s lock-down is far more disturbing than Marin’s partying.

But perhaps I am biased.

Au contraire, mon ami! This is the foolish woman who destroyed decades of a comfortable strategic ambivalence in Finland’s relations with its neighbors in the West and Russia. In an act that seems stereotypical for a 30-something woman, she ran for protection at the knees of Big Butch America, not noticing that America was flabby and not able to guarantee anyone’s safety. For that giant mistake alone, she should be driven from office.

Side note: the long-term survival of society depends on each fertile woman having 2.1 children and bringing them up to be good citizens. It is a total waste to have a 30-something childless party girl as prime minister of Finland – lots of people could do that job; she could do that job when she is 50 and has brought up the children on whom Finland’s continuing survival depends.
