The Crazy Years

And remember, those are the people who told us Trump was a threat to our security.

At the moment, 32 of France’s 56 nuclear reactors, all operated by EDF, are shut down for usual maintenance and, in some cases, to repair corrosion problems.

France re-opening nuclear reactors is not really an indication of “The Crazy Years”. It could be taken as a sign that the adults are finally telling the teenagers to sit down and shut up.

Who would have guessed that it would be France (France!) that would bring the Crazy Years to an end?

So concludes 40 years of Autodesk in Marin County. Out of the frying pan….

Mike Blakeley, chief executive officer of the Marin Economic Forum, is quoted in the Mercury News article as saying,

“[T]he fact that a number of very successful companies have started in Marin and then moved away is not necessarily a bad thing.”

That reminds me of when the city council in Sausalito was worried whether Autodesk’s expansion there was changing the character of their artisanal, tourist-trap community. That is what ultimately provoked the expansion into and subsequent move to San Rafael.

Sixty percent of our company’s top executives and half of our board of directors are women,” noted Anagnost. “We support the LGBTQ community. “Where else would we be if not San Francisco? Certainly, not Texas,” he added, drawing applause.

We definitely need a new category – because restarting nuclear power is NOT Crazy Years – it is the belated return of common sense, more than half a century after common sense was abandoned.

The next phase (which may take years) will be when the parties scrambling to build reliable 24/7 nuclear power plants find that (a) the big hold up and much of the expense lies in excessive regulation rather than in any physical issue, and (b) Western politicians will have to go cap-in-hand to China and Russia to replace their now-lost technologies for manufacturing essential components of nuclear power plants.
